What they plan to spend

MicrosoftAbout $175bn in calendar 2026, after some data-centre leases moved from finance to operating leases, which capex leaves out. Spending in the year to June 2027 to grow
Alphabet$195–205bn in 2026, raised in July from $180–190bn, and expected to increase significantly in 2027
AmazonAbout $220bn of cash capex in 2026, raised in July from about $200bn as memory costs rose
Meta$135–145bn in 2026, including finance-lease payments, narrowed in October from $130–145bn
Oracle$90–95bn in the year to May 2027, with no more than $70bn of net cash capex

What to watch each quarter

  • Capital spending against operating cash flow: a figure above one shows funding from outside the business.
  • Buybacks: a company that starts buying back shares again gives the clearest sign it sees the period of heavy spending as over.
  • New debt and equity in the financing section of the cash flow statement.
  • Depreciation growth against revenue growth, showing when spending moves into the income statement.

Method and sources

The figures come from each company's quarterly filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, checked 26 October 2026. Free cash flow follows each company's own definition. Amazon calculates it as operating cash flow less purchases of property and equipment net of proceeds from sales and incentives, while Meta also deducts finance-lease payments. Capital spending equals operating cash flow less free cash flow, so the difference matches each company's reported figure. Microsoft's year ends in June, Oracle's ends in May and the labels use the calendar quarter in which they fall. Long-term debt covers the non-current portion. Oracle's operating cash flow for the quarter to August 2026 includes $11.4bn in customer prepayments towards data-centre equipment. Spending plans come from each company's results release or earnings call.
